March Favourites

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe it’s already April, 1st! This past month has really flown by, but I did manage to try some new products that I’m loving and wanted to share in this month’s edit. So let’s get right into my March Favourites!

Marc Jacobs Beauty recently came out with their new line of Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme’s, and as soon as I heard about them I had to try them out! They claim to be hydrating, creamy and last up to 8 hours and I’m happy to say that I agree!  They’re not goopy like a lot of glosses, and not drying like most matte liquid lips…just a happy in-between!  They have a beautiful range of wearable nude shades and I picked up Slow Burn and Truth or Bare. To be honest, I rarely wear lip products on a day-to-day basis, so I’ll be reserving these for special occasions, but as per usual, Marc Jacobs does not disappoint!

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip CremeAnother makeup product I have been loving this past month is Anastasia’s Brow Definer. I had been using her Brow Wiz for years, (still love it), but wanted to try the Definer to see what all the fuss was about. The Definer is definitely a thicker pencil, which I really like because it gives your brows more of a natural, full look…without the hassle and mess of a brow powder. Ofcourse it’s not as precise as the thin-tipped Brow Whiz, but I feel like you can get away with that really bold, thick, less than perfect brow look these days, and this product will definitely help you achieve that! The little spoolie brush on the end is an added bonus 🙂

The last makeup item that made the cut this past month was the N*28 Primer Serum from Hourglass. I got this using my VIB Insider points at Sephora and after using it for most of the month, I think I might have to purchase the full size! It glides on so silky smooth thanks to it’s 28 essential oils and vitamins, (hence the name), and leaves a dewy glow to the skin. I would recommend this for normal-dry skin types as it’s very rich and hydrating.

Another item I couldn’t live without last month was the Peppermint Halo Headache Remedy from Saje. For some reason I had quite a few headaches in March, (possibly our crazy weather?!), and this essential oil roll-on saved me many times! The combination of peppermint, lavender and rosemary help to soothe, calm and relieve headache pain and muscle aches. Just roll this around your hairline, creating a “halo” effect and feel almost instant relief!

Saje Peppermint haloMoving onto skincare, this Rice Enzyme Powder by Tatcha is so good! I’ve had it for awhile now but found myself gravitating to it more and more this month. The combination of Japanses rice bran and papaya extract is gentle yet effective for removing that dead winter skin, and it leaves your skin so super soft. I use this a couple of times a week instead of harsher exfoliants like scrubs or glycolic acids, because my skin is more sensitive in these dryer months. I also love that it comes in a smaller size so you don’t have to splurge on the larger one ($$$) and it’s so much more convenient for traveling.

Pucker up! I’ve been wanting to try out collagen lip masks for some time now, and I finally got my hands on some! These KNC collagen lip masks are all-natural and contain a moisturizing blend of rose flower oil, cherry extract and vitamin E.. The added collagen gives you that full, hydrated, plumped look, perfect as a lipstick primer before a night out.  There’s nothing worse than those little annoying upper lip lines and these masks really help to soften them, even if only temporarily, for $5 each I’ll take a dozen!

My last favourite item of the month has to be this amazing book I just finished reading called The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson. (Thanks to my girls over at Somewhere, Lately for the recommendation). Like most personal development books, it talks about reaching your fullest potential in multiple areas of your life including relationships, health, and finances. However, this one was so straight-forward, to the point, and easy to read, that it really hit home for me. The book’s philosophy is to take small steps daily to reach your goal. Something very easy to do and yet very easy not to do.  I can’t say enough about this book, it has created such a shift in my mindset and I would highly HIGHLY recommend it!

So that concludes my March Favourites. I’d love to know which makeup products, skincare or books you’ve loved this past month. Leave me a comment below and let me know!

February Favourites

Hey everyone, happy March!  I thought it would be fun to start a new series on the blog highlighting my favourite products of the month. These will be my most used, newly discovered, (or rediscovered!), beauty and makeup products of each month. I might even throw in some cute fashion finds, great books or yummy food items from time to time. So without further ado, and only a few days late, (#momlife), here are my favourite products from the month of February…First on the list are these super hydrating  Face Masks by Karuna. Sheet masks have been all the rage lately with every beauty brand coming out with their own version of one.  I love these ones especially because they’re made from 100% natural fiber, drenched in hyaluronic acid, and peptides, and the best part? They’re only $10 each! So sit back with a sheet mask on, relax and watch your favourite Netflix series. By the time you’re done, your face will feel as smooth as a baby’s bottom. My idea of a good night!

The next favourite of the month are these 3 in 1 Facial Towelettes from The Honest Company.  I don’t often use cleansing wipes, but this month we had a mini reno at home and being without plumbing for a few days these wipes came in very handy! They aren’t drying to the skin, and remove all traces of makeup including around the eyes. They contain olive oil, aloe and chamomile are so gentle I’ve even used them on my baby girl. Now I’m hooked and will be throwing a pack into my diaper bag, travel bag and yoga bag!

OK, can we talk about this next product for a moment?! Prep Rally by Drybar was probably one of my best beauty finds this month! The first time I used it I fell in love with the scent and it’s performance didn’t disappoint either!  It’s basically a leave-in conditioner and heat protector all in one. It contains Biotin and B12 which means it’s perfect for the dry winter weather we’ve had (goodbye static hair!), and will also come in handy during the summer months or on vacation because of it’s UV protection. Trust me, this one is a MUST-HAVE!

This next item was a bit of a splurge but in the end I’m SO happy I finally purchased it. My hands have been ROUGH this winter, with the cold dry winter and constantly washing my hands with a baby at home, my hands needed some TLC. After seeing the Aesop Hand Balm all over social media, I finally pulled the trigger and bought one. Now I understand what all the hype is about. Soooo luxurious feeling, not greasy, lightly scented (no old lady scent here), and super moisturizing. Not to mention this tube will last you a good few months at least. Do yourself a favour and just get one! You can thank me later.

I really lucked out this month with lip products! I had no expectations with this Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask, other than loving the name of the shade (Champagne – duh!). Well, OMG this stuff is amazing!!! It’s 99% natural, full of antioxidants including the powerhouse Resveratrol, jojoba and organic agave nectar, OH and it tastes deliciious!!! It hydrates FOR DAYS!!!!  Plus it leaves just a hint of shimmering pink colour behind. I have used it everyday since I purchased it and will likely pick up another one for on-the-go.

The second lip product is the new Charlotte Tilbury Revolutionary Matte Lipstick in PillowTalk. Just as good as her infamous lipliner of the same name, this lipstick works on every skintone, giving that YLBB (your lips but better) look. It’s called a Modern-Matte finish which means it isn’t a dry formulation (nothing worse than cracked matte lips in the winter). This really is the perfect nudey-pink hue that’s wearable everyday.

bite agave lip mask charlotte tilbury pillow talk favoritesThe last favourite of the month is not a new product, but a new discovery found in the back of my makeup drawer. It’s the Highlighting Duo pencil from Anastasia. This thing has literally given me life this month. With both a matte and shimmer side, it’s perfect to highlight the brow-bone and inner corner of the eyes in a flash. No brushes needed, no messy powder or liquid, just a quick swipe and blend with your fingertip. It makes me look like I’ve had a full nights rest (NOT!) and brightens up the entire eye area.  I don’t know where this magic pencil was hiding but I’m so glad I found it. It’s a new mamas secret weapon!

So that rounds up this month’s list of favourites. Hope you enjoyed it and found something new to try out for yourself!

My Must-Have Drugstore Makeup Products

Happy Monday everyone! Today I thought I would share with you my must-have drugstore makeup products. This post was especially fun for me because as much as I am a product junkie who can spend hours (and $$$) at Sephora and department store beauty counters, I also love finding good, quality drugstore makeup. There’s nothing better than the satisfaction of finding an inexpensive product that actually performs just as well – and in some cases better- than the high end/luxury brands. That said, these are my absolute favourite go-to items that I wear on a daily basis. Some of them are dupes for higher-priced products and others are just tried and true standouts. The best part is, nothing is over $20 (and even less if you find it on sale!) As always, I’ve linked all items below so you can get to shopping ASAP!

Favourite drugstore makeup dupesFoundation: I hate to admit it but I’ve always been a bit of a snob when it comes to drugstore foundations…I just didn’t think the quality could come close to anything I would spend $40+ on, (insert eye-roll emoji). Well I was wrong, (gasp!), and I can admit it, so let’s just move on and say that the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation is AHHHHMAZING!!! I use this product Every.Single.Day. It’s light-weight with a buildable coverage and really does leave you with that flawless, glowing finish. I’ll be honest, I can’t stand the pad applicator as I find it doesn’t deposit the product evenly onto the skin and it also reminds me of the makeup sponges of the 80’s (yes, I’m old enough to remember those). Instead, I would recommend using a soft foundation brush instead for a more airbrushed finish.

Next up is this beautiful baked powder blush from Milani, in the colour Rose D’Oro. It is the perfect shade of pink, not too bright, not too coral…and who doesn’t love anything rose gold?! I would say it’s a pretty good dupe for the Nars Orgasm blush, but at a much prettier price point. The colour payoff is great and I love that it leaves a slight highlighted affect to the skin. I’ve been seriously impressed with this blush and haven’t worn anything else since trying it almost 3 years ago.

Best Drugstore Blush Milani Baked Dupe for NarsI have a few eye products that I can’t live without and this wouldn’t be a proper drugstore post without talking about the infamous Voluminous mascara from L’oreal. Hands down THE BEST lower-priced mascara out there. There’s a reason it wins best mascara year after year from the editors at Instyle Magazine. It lengthens, it volumizes, it even comes in a waterproof formulation…and if you’re lucky to find it on sale, (as low as $4.98!!!), I would suggest stocking up on two or three.

Another eye product I have been using for years is the Annabelle Kohl eyeliner pencils. I  have this thing about paying more than six bucks for an eyeliner…I just can’t do it!! These eyeliners last forever, come in a million colours and are CHEAP!!! I’m not one for the really waxy eyeliners, (eg. MAC and Urban Decay), because I find they smudge way too easily and I end up looking like a racoon, so that’s why I love these kohl pencils. They’re long lasting, don’t budge and are hypo-allergenic, (which means gentle enough to use along the inner rim/water line). So if you’re looking for a good, standard eye pencil, these ones can’t be beat. Oh, and they’re also the #1 eye pencil in Canada…who knew?!

Best drugstore mascara L'Oreal Luminous mascaraAs for eyeshadow, this quad from Cover Girl has been a relatively new discovery for me and it’s quickly become one of my can’t-live-without products. If you’re like me and are used to MAC shadows or the Urban Decay Naked palettes, then you’ve probably never even given these a second glance at the drugstore. But let me tell you, you have been missing out! There are six different colour palettes in the Notice Me Nudes line and I use #700. Each of the 4 shades in this palette are neutral enough for an everyday look, but can also easily transition to a more dramatic evening look by applying the darkest colour in your crease. Bottom line, if I were stranded on a desert island and could only take one eyeshadow palette with me, this would be the one.

Best drugstore eyeshadow paletteMoving on to lips! I thought this one was going to be pretty tough as I have a ton of drugstore lipsticks and didn’t think I’d be able to narrow it down to just one favourite…until I took a look at my lipstick collection and found not one, not two, but FOUR of the exact same lipgloss in my drawer! (I was either afraid this colour would get discontinued, or I was stocking up incase of an apocalypse). The winner in the lip category is non other than Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Peach Petal. It’s pretty, it’s perfect and it’s almost an exact dupe for the Nars Turkish Delight gloss. Apply this alone or over any shade of lipstick and it adds that perfect pinky-nude finish.

Revlon Super Lustrious Lipgloss review dupe for nars turkish delightLastly, I have to mention my absolute favourite nail polish. If you’re a follower of mine, you already know that I’m obsessed with at-home gel nail polishes. In fact, I haven’t bought a “regular” nail polish in months. My most worn gel polish is hands down the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Birthday Suit.  It’s the perfect neutral shade – not too pink, not too nude, and gives just a hint of colour.  Like all gel polishes, it lasts about a week with no chipping or cracking. If you ever see me with my nails done, this is what I’m most likely wearing. It’s just that good.
