Protein “Beauty” Balls

Happy Monday everyone! This week I wanted to share with you a recipe for these super yummy vegan Protein “Beauty” Balls.  I got this recipe from Juliana and Mark over at Boho Beautiful, and if you haven’t checked out their YouTube channel, then you must! They have tons of great yoga videos for all levels, shot in beautiful locales all over the world…and they are fellow Canadians 🙂  These Beauty Balls are super easy to make and keep in the freezer for an on-the-go snack, they are high in protein and chock full of beautifying ingredients. (See below for a run-down on all the beauty benefits!)vegan protein beauty ballsHere’s what you need:

1/2 cup of raw unsalted almonds and cashews

1/2 cup of raw unsalted sunflower and pumpkin seeds

1/4 tsp of sea salt

1/4 cup cacao powder

1 cup pitted dates

3 tbsp water

In a food processor, grind nuts until finely ground. Then pulse in cacao powder, vanilla extract, maca powder and salt. Next add the dates and water until blended into a dough-y mixture. Make dough into little balls and then roll them into your choice of cacao powder, shredded coconut or keep them plain. Pop them into the freezer for at least 30 minutes and enjoy!

March Favourites

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe it’s already April, 1st! This past month has really flown by, but I did manage to try some new products that I’m loving and wanted to share in this month’s edit. So let’s get right into my March Favourites!

Marc Jacobs Beauty recently came out with their new line of Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme’s, and as soon as I heard about them I had to try them out! They claim to be hydrating, creamy and last up to 8 hours and I’m happy to say that I agree!  They’re not goopy like a lot of glosses, and not drying like most matte liquid lips…just a happy in-between!  They have a beautiful range of wearable nude shades and I picked up Slow Burn and Truth or Bare. To be honest, I rarely wear lip products on a day-to-day basis, so I’ll be reserving these for special occasions, but as per usual, Marc Jacobs does not disappoint!

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip CremeAnother makeup product I have been loving this past month is Anastasia’s Brow Definer. I had been using her Brow Wiz for years, (still love it), but wanted to try the Definer to see what all the fuss was about. The Definer is definitely a thicker pencil, which I really like because it gives your brows more of a natural, full look…without the hassle and mess of a brow powder. Ofcourse it’s not as precise as the thin-tipped Brow Whiz, but I feel like you can get away with that really bold, thick, less than perfect brow look these days, and this product will definitely help you achieve that! The little spoolie brush on the end is an added bonus 🙂

The last makeup item that made the cut this past month was the N*28 Primer Serum from Hourglass. I got this using my VIB Insider points at Sephora and after using it for most of the month, I think I might have to purchase the full size! It glides on so silky smooth thanks to it’s 28 essential oils and vitamins, (hence the name), and leaves a dewy glow to the skin. I would recommend this for normal-dry skin types as it’s very rich and hydrating.

Another item I couldn’t live without last month was the Peppermint Halo Headache Remedy from Saje. For some reason I had quite a few headaches in March, (possibly our crazy weather?!), and this essential oil roll-on saved me many times! The combination of peppermint, lavender and rosemary help to soothe, calm and relieve headache pain and muscle aches. Just roll this around your hairline, creating a “halo” effect and feel almost instant relief!

Saje Peppermint haloMoving onto skincare, this Rice Enzyme Powder by Tatcha is so good! I’ve had it for awhile now but found myself gravitating to it more and more this month. The combination of Japanses rice bran and papaya extract is gentle yet effective for removing that dead winter skin, and it leaves your skin so super soft. I use this a couple of times a week instead of harsher exfoliants like scrubs or glycolic acids, because my skin is more sensitive in these dryer months. I also love that it comes in a smaller size so you don’t have to splurge on the larger one ($$$) and it’s so much more convenient for traveling.

Pucker up! I’ve been wanting to try out collagen lip masks for some time now, and I finally got my hands on some! These KNC collagen lip masks are all-natural and contain a moisturizing blend of rose flower oil, cherry extract and vitamin E.. The added collagen gives you that full, hydrated, plumped look, perfect as a lipstick primer before a night out.  There’s nothing worse than those little annoying upper lip lines and these masks really help to soften them, even if only temporarily, for $5 each I’ll take a dozen!

My last favourite item of the month has to be this amazing book I just finished reading called The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson. (Thanks to my girls over at Somewhere, Lately for the recommendation). Like most personal development books, it talks about reaching your fullest potential in multiple areas of your life including relationships, health, and finances. However, this one was so straight-forward, to the point, and easy to read, that it really hit home for me. The book’s philosophy is to take small steps daily to reach your goal. Something very easy to do and yet very easy not to do.  I can’t say enough about this book, it has created such a shift in my mindset and I would highly HIGHLY recommend it!

So that concludes my March Favourites. I’d love to know which makeup products, skincare or books you’ve loved this past month. Leave me a comment below and let me know!

Spring Things…The Essentials

Happy Friday! Since Spring is technically here, (although you wouldn’t know it with the weather we’ve been having), I thought it would be fun to put together a post with some cute, must-have Spring things…aka Essentials for Spring 😉 Hope you enjoy and get some inspiration…or at the very least it gets you in the mood for some warmer weather!

Essential Things for Spring

  1. The floral trend is really big this Spring and although I’m usually always drawn to floral print, it has to be just right…not too loud or too girly. This off-shoulder top by Free People has just the right balance of pretty and sophistication. In my opinion, Free People can never go wrong, and who doesn’t love a little off-shoulder action?
  2. Camel is probably my all-time favourite colour for purses, so when the nice weather rolls around I get very excited to break out my Spring bags. I absolutely fell in love with this Rebecca Minkoff bag when I first saw it. The colour is perfection and for a mama that always has her hands full, the cross-body is a necessity. The chevron pattern also gives it that chic Chanel look. Love!
  3. Sunglasses are a year round necessity for me and I thought these gold mirrored aviators from Quay X Desi Perkins were perfect for Spring! I have them in the mirrored black colour and LOVE them! They are BIG and they make a statement… and the price is soo good! Now hurry up and get yourself a pair because they sell out fast!
  4. Next up, a little lippy for you…I got a sample of this colour Bitch Perfect from Charlotte Tilbury and thought it was soo pretty. It’s a peachy-nude hue, perfect for everyday, and it screams Spring! Bonus – you can order directly from the Charlotte Tilbury website in Canadian dollars and with FREE SHIPPING!!! (Woohoo!)
  5. Another big trend this season is military-inspired pieces. This Spring you will find it in shirts, as well as embellished jackets. I prefer a more subdued look like this one by BP from Nordstrom but you can also have some fun as there are so many styles to choose from right now. I have to admit I’ve gone a little overboard with this trend, but I just can’t get enough!
  6. I love me a good hat! Sometimes for warmth, other times for fashion, but mostly to hide a bad hair day. This one from Forever 21 is a steal (on sale!) and a great alternative to your basic black fedora.
  7. The perforated booties! This style was big last Spring but being pregnant I didn’t take advantage, (thinking my shoe size would change), so I was super excited when I saw them again this season and had to grab myself a pair. These Dolce Vita’s are from Target and at a fraction of the price, you can’t go wrong!
  8.  Lastly, distressed denim is still going strong (love!) so if you’ve already got a pair or two you’re half way there. That being said, this season the raw hem is where it’s at! Just take a pair of scissors and cut them right above the ankles and let them fray away! These ones from the Gap are super cute and 40% off!

OMG all these florals, pastels and neutrals have really got me excited for some Spring weather, now if only Mother Nature would get the memo! Hope you enjoyed this post and got some ideas for pieces you can add into your Spring wardrobe!
